I mourn the death of JOE. In the early 80 's bought vinyl in the music store in Schwerin (where I served in GSVG). I first heard the songs in his performance. And honestly, I did not immediately take them up, educated at the VIA and only occasionally listening to foreign performers on magnetoalbums. For about two years the bought disk was on the shelf. I sometimes tried to listen to him, but until the end I could not understand the style and manner of his performance. And then it struck me, I listened and listened to it. And in the late 90's I occasionally bought a double MP3 with his songs and ALL he became my idol for fifteen years. Naturally, I filled up my collection of songs in his performance. And in tribute to the memory of Joe I will say that you were and remain my KUMIR !!!

Cocker - the power of talent, a powerful onslaught and at the same time captivating sincerity. Joe Cocker is a rare individuality, unlike today's herd of pop paddles that is not masculine, feminine, and neuter. There were pernicious predilections, they are his and
knocked down. Talented performers without operatic voices are and Coker,
for example, our Bernes. In such singers, the main thing is hypnotic penetration in the voice, and without a soul it will not work, even if you only sing pure notes. Cocker has a high taste, and not only in his work, but also in life, and in real human standards.
      Cockers will not forget.

Legendary British singer, who worked in the genres of blues and rock. Officer of the Order of the British Empire.

His calling card was a low, hoarse baritone. The pearls of his repertoire are the blues and rock ballads of Summer in the City, My Father's Son, Unchain My Heart, You Can Leave Your Hat On, Now That the Magic Has Gone, N'oubliez jamais and Up Where We Belong, sounded in the movie " Officer and gentleman "and won the" Oscar "as the best song of the year, as well as the Grammy Award.

He was considered one of the most vocal strong performers of the last half century - in 2008 Rolling Stone magazine included it in his list of "100 greatest singers in history".

The singer was the youngest son of a civil servant Harold Coker who lived in the working area of Sheffield. Because of financial difficulties, Joe left school early and went to work as an assistant to the fitter. However, in 1961, he began his singing career in small pubs in Sheffield, acting under the pseudonym Vance Arnold as part of The Avengers. The composition of the repertoire included mainly the songs of Chuck Berry and Ray Charles.

In 1963, Cocker and his team performed at the Sheffield City Hall in front of the Rolling Stones concert.

In 1966, Joe Cocker, along with Chris Stainton, created the band "Grease Band" and often performed in Sheffield, and toured north of England playing African American rhythm and blues and soul.

In 1968 he recorded his own version of Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends", which in November reached the top of the national sales chart.

In the spring of 1969, the "Grease Band" went on their first tour of the United States. The album "With a Little Help from My Friends" was released shortly after arriving in America and took 35th place in the US charts.

In August 1969, his performance made a splash at the festival in Woodstock. The following year the singer assembled the group "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" ("Mad Dogs and Englishmen") and went on tour in America. For 56 days, along with his retinue consisting of more than forty people, Coker traveled 48 cities and gave 52 concerts.

In the 1970s, Cocker experienced problems with the repertoire, in which the re-singing of the songs of other performers prevailed. In addition, he was addicted to drugs and alcohol, regularly appearing on stage in a state of light drunk. Due to the abuse of alcohol, his once powerful voice turned into an extremely hoarse baritone. This did not prevent him in 1982 in a duet with Jennifer Warnes to conquer the American charts with the slow ballad "Up Where We Belong", followed by other songs in a similar style. The song "Up Where We Belong" was sounded in the film "Officer and Gentleman" and received an Oscar and a Grammy Award in the nomination "The best vocal pop-performance by a duet or band".

Cocker was one of the few Woodstock veterans who performed (and successfully) on Woodstock. "94 Coke's little-known song" Woman to Woman "was reworked by rap producer Dr. Dra for Tupac Shakur in the" California Love "super hit, which topped Billboard Hot 100 and was included in the list of "500 greatest songs of all time according to Rolling Stone magazine version." Also this song sounds in the computer game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on the K-DST radio station.

Last years I was sick a lot. In September 2014, Billy Joel from the stage reported that Coker's health condition was unsatisfactory.
The singer died on December 22, 2014 from lung cancer in the city of Crawford (Colorado), where he lived in a secluded ranch with his wife.

In May 2004, Joe Cocker turned 60 years old. Starting his difficult creative path back in the late 60's, he stood in a tough creative competition, in a difficult struggle with the vicissitudes of fate and a false show business, which disappointed him at his first acquaintance. A subject of Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain, Cocker easily conquered the whole European continent and both Americas and today enters the pantheon of the greatest rock stars of our time.

John Robert Cocker was born in Sheffield, England. His father, a civil servant, gave the boy the opportunity to get a secondary education, and the further path was left to choose himself. John chose: in the afternoon he worked as a gas pipeline student, and at night he performed in pubs. Changing the working robe for a dark suit and a bow tie, the beginning musician appeared on stage under the name of Vance Arnold and performed pop songs, soul and blues. His favorite numbers were things from Ray Charles's repertoire "What" d I Say "and" Georgia on My Mind. "The backing musicians who accompanied John called themselves The Avengers. in 1963, when they played a branch on the stage of the Sheffield City Hall before the Rolling Stones concert, eyewitnesses said, Vance Arnold and the company looked very convincing.

Gas welding was done forever. In England, a new artist was born, whose name was Joe Cocker   . In 1964, he quietly and modestly made his debut with the single "I" ll Cry Instead, "a cover version of the Beatles." After assembling a new back-up group Joe Cocker   Big Blues, the singer went to get acquainted with the public. First with the English - in the north of Great Britain, then from the European - in the French province and on the air bases of the USA, located on the territory of France. The US military, mostly from the southern states, welcomed the voiced British briskly. The French called him "little Ray Charles." Unfortunately, the return to the homeland was marked by a sad incident: during one of the concerts the musicians fell through a scene. Although the artists got off bruises and a slight fright, this made a depressing impression on the frontman. And the whole situation in the team did not inspire optimism. Actually after this concert Joe Cocker   Big Blues ceased to exist.

A whole year Joe Cocker was silent. Did not perform, did not record, did not look for new musicians. The case came to nothing only when Chris Stainton appeared in his life, which Joe subsequently called the greatest musician in the world. Together with Chris, they assembled an excellent team The Grease Band. The first studio demos were broadcast to Denny Cordell, producer of The Moody Blues and Procul Harum. Cordell liked Cocker's vocal style, and he arranged for the singer to perform at the famous London club "The Marquee". This was in 1968. Over the next year Joe Cocker   from the budding blues-rock artist step by step turned into a British rock star. The beginning put the first big hit in his solo career, the leader of the British charts - the single "A Little Help From My Friends", another cover version of Вeatles (cover versions in general played a separate role in the musician's career, but more on that later).

Six months later, America learned about Joe Cocker. Many local concerts by themselves would not have done what was possible to a single appearance on the television screen. Cocker was invited to the most famous at the time television show Ed Sullivan (Ed Sullivan). The singer impressed the spectators with his hoarse voice and expressive behavior. The reaction of the press to Coker's live performance, as well as to his two first LPs "With a Little Help from My Friends" and "Joe Cocker!", Already published in the United States, was ambiguous, but it never occurred to anyone to deny his original talent . Moreover, the artist was accompanied by excellent musicians, including guitarists Jimmy Page (Jimmy Page) and Albert Lee (Albert Lee). The observer of the magazine "Life" described Koker's image in a very peculiar way, calling it "the voice of all blind mourners, crazy beggars, unfortunate cripples who roam the streets." Cocker expressed what is happening in their souls and what no one knows, what they themselves would never have been able to express themselves. "

In fact, of course, Joe Cocker   never sang in the streets, and by the time such compliments appeared he had already begun to master the sites of the largest rock festivals. The triumphant performance on the stage of the legendary Woodstock in front of half a million spectators in 1969, where the artist allowed himself a few daring tricks, was preserved in the audio recordings.

In 1970, Cocker's album "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" was released on both sides of the Atlantic. The singer said that when he wrote these songs, he "hovered somewhere in the skies, on Venus, in outer space." This double album, which survived several re-releases, remains an excellent example of blues rock and soft rock of the early 70's. The accompanying tour, conducted together with the producer and arranger of the artist, Leon Russell (Leon Russell), resulted in a dashing race in 48 cities, which the musicians combed in 56 days. On the road with them went another 40 people - managers, road technicians, wives or girlfriends, children, attendants, crew and even favorite dogs. Almost everywhere, Cocker's speeches passed with a cheer. But returning to the final destination - Los Angeles - was like waking up after a long hangover. The singer woke up tired, jerky and, in his words, "completely disappointed in the rock business." Although there were pleasant moments. So, in 1970 alone, his CDs in America earned him $ 3 million in revenue. All three of Joe Cocker's first albums became platinum, and the magazine "Playboy", summing up the musical results of the year, called him the number one vocalist. In the asset of the singer appeared the first American hit - cover version of "The Letter" group Box Tops, which finished in Tor 10. This was the first peak of his popularity in the States.

The decade started as if it were not bad, but the 70s were not the best period in the artist's life. New albums were released regularly enough: "Joe Cocker" (1973), "I Can Stand a Little Rain" (1974), "Jamaica Say You Will" (1975), "Stingray" (1976), "Luxury You Can Afford" (1978). These same years are the most famous songs of Cocker's "You Are So Beautiful", "Guilty", "The Moons and Harsh Mistress" - his lifetime classics. In particular, the romantic ballad "You Are So Beautiful" in 1975 again returned the artist's name to the first lines of the world charts. This song replaced another popular Cocker single "It's s Sin When You Love Somebody" in American Thor 5. While the rest of the life was bleak, the singer was left without a record contract. personal life, but also interfered with the work.It happened that on the stage he went out well warmed up.

With the beginning of the 80's, the life of Joe Cocker gradually began to return to normal. After a five-year break in 1982, he prepared an interesting collection of new material "Sheffield Steel". A first-class interpreter of blues rock and soft rock, he presented vivid cover versions of songs by Randy Newman "Marie" and Bob Dylan's little-known number "Seven Days". His duet with Jennifer Warnes "Up Where We Belong", sounded in the film "An Officer and a Gentleman", was nominated for an Oscar. The song gained international popularity and became the first American hit number one in Coker's career. In addition, for the first time, he became the hero of the Grammy award ceremony, having won the nomination "Best Performance of Pop Songs".

Until the end of the decade, four more studio albums were recorded: "Civilized Man" (1984), "Cocker" (1986), "Unchain My Heart" (1987), and "One Night of Sin" (1989), which included a hit from the first Twenty "When the Night Comes", written by Bryan Adams (Bryan Adams). Although American music fans treated these releases rather sluggishly, they all became platinum in the UK and were well received by Europeans.

Cocker's career was noticeably brightened in the late 80's, when the band The Crusaders invited the singer to perform a specially composed for him song "I" m So Glad I "m Standing Here Today". The lyrics almost literally sounded his state, what he had to endure. When Cocker came out with this number on the scene of the Grammy award ceremony in February 1992, the audience applauded him standing up. Joe Cocker   as if experiencing a rebirth. A huge support was provided to him by his new friend Pam (Pam), who in 1987 became his wife. In 1991, the singer recorded the hit of Elton John "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word" for the album-tribute to John and Bernie Taupin "Two Rooms". The album sold three million copies worldwide.

Coke's new long play "Night Calls" (1992) became gold in the US, and in many European countries he harvested platinum certificates. Mainly due to the title single "Night Calls", written by Jeff Lynne (Jeff Lynne). The next album of 1994 "Have a Little Faith", published on a new label, was highly appreciated by critics, but, unfortunately, did not receive the necessary promotional support. The mass audience ignored him. Similarly, the 96-97 CDs "Organic" and "Across from Midnight" did not become a memorable event. One of the main creative problems of Coker is the reliance on someone else's material: the lion's share of his recordings are cover versions. Although to hold out for more than 30 years on the international scene, relying only on the interpretation of other people's songs - it also must be able to.

Joe Cocker, with his characteristic raucous vocals, although slightly lost color in the fight against alcohol, was eagerly invited by the creators of feature films. His songs sounded in the pictures "Harry and the Hendersons", "Bull Durham", "An Innocent Man". But the most famous was, of course, the musical theme for the striptease scene in the movie "9 1/2 weeks" - "You Can Leave Your Hat On".

In the 90 years, Cocker engaged in investing in capital - and not only in the music business. In Crawford, Colorado, where he settled with his family, the artist owns a bakery, a cafe, a conference room, a supermarket and a number of shops. No comments.

The beginning of the 21st century was caught by Joe Cocker,

Always, at work. In five years he released three studio albums: "No Ordinary World" (2000), "Respect Yourself" (2002), "Heart & Soul" (2004) and "Definitive Collection" (2002). In recent years, Joe has been touring a lot. In his piggy bank - a large collection of awards and awards. Among the most notable concerts with the artist is the Princes Trust Gala, held under the patronage of the royal family of Great Britain, a concert in honor of the birthday of Nelson Mandela, a grandiose show in Berlin on the occasion of the fall of the Berlin Wall. In America, which became his second homeland, he spoke at the inauguration ceremony of President George W. Bush.

35 years of a tight tour schedule did not affect the enthusiasm of the 60-year-old singer. What's in the future? "While I'm enjoying live communication with listeners," says Cocker, "until my concerts are excited, until then I'll go on stage."
