The speech of the god Odin reveals a stunning view of the archetypal splendor spreading everywhere - from heaven to earth, from the moon to the sun, shining night and day. In this brilliance lies the very soul of the archetype, known for centuries under the name Rex et Regina Mundi (translated from the Latin “Rex et Regina” means “King and Queen”, and “mundi” means peace). The basis of this archetype is consciousness, which controls the course of life and evolution on our planet. It cannot be classified as human, but it is not a non-human, it is neither darkness nor light... some kind of asexual pansexual creature living in a remote kingdom of causal geometry and etheric architectonics on a planetary scale.
The story of this mysterious Ruler of the Earth appears in folklore wisdom and even in children's games (“king of the hill”). It spans eras and cultures, influencing the Christian, Islamic, Jewish, Hindu and Buddhist worlds alike. Ancient Egypt, Babylon, China and India all had their own legends about the Monarch, but in general this archetype is even more ancient and, perhaps, dates back to the formation of human consciousness. If Geoffrey Ash is correct, then the initial archetype was first consciously formulated by shamans from Central Asia sometime during the Late Paleolithic and Early Neolithic era (15,000 BC). They lived on a plateau in the Altai Mountains. Northern and Central Asia is still a hotbed of belief in the reality of the Monarch, whose invisible “hand” guides and protects the process of evolution on Earth.
The idea that the Ruler operates secretly and unnoticed naturally fosters an atmosphere of all-encompassing conspiracy with metaphysical ramifications originating from the deepest physical levels and reaching into the most subtle matters. Long-oppressed conspiracy theorists will someday recognize that the primary source of power fueling their beloved conspiracy is either extraterrestrial or demonic in nature. The argument in favor of this strange consortium is the sheer scale of the conspiracy - after all, it reaches the level of planets and has been going on for many centuries. Such a large-scale event would simply be too much for a person to handle. Humans are mere puppets in these conspiracy theories, victims of deception by vast inhuman forces. The King of the World, as we will see later, embraces non-human possibilities along with all other potential options. He unites angelic, demonic, earthly and heavenly qualities in a blaze of metaphysical glory, after which he goes even beyond these kingdoms into the space of pure geometric consciousness where all creation is planned and manifested.
In our time, the archetype of the Monarch of the World makes itself known in Tibet, Northern Europe, Russia, Siberia and in most countries where the Celts, Aryans, Indo-Europeans, Scandinavians and Central Asians once lived. In addition to the listed ethnocultural groups, this archetype is also found on the religious plane: in Gnosticism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, Manichaeism, esoteric Christianity, theosophy, and even in the occult elements of National Socialism, which tried to forcefully launch the evolutionary program of the Monarch catastrophically early. The mythical Monarch is depicted as an androgyne, as a twin or a creature of two halves - male and female, or as an alchemical "Rebis" or hermaphrodite. The divine twins in which the Monarch is embodied are usually opposed to each other, like light and darkness. Often one of them is endowed with an exclusively demonic character, while the other is angelic. From the point of view of metaphysics, there is an amazing meaning here, for the domain of the Ruler extends from the highest and subtlest metaphysical spheres to the darkness and icy cold of hell. At the same time, the Earth exists as an intermediate space, in which there is something from both mountain heights and dark depths.
In the Pistis Sophia, a Gnostic book written in the 2nd century AD, there is a curious passage that tells how an unusual phantom resembling the baby Jesus appeared to the Virgin Mary and threw her into confusion. In an unforgettable vision, the living Jesus merges with his ghost in the fire of ecstatic union. The identity of this ghost is not difficult to establish, for from the ancient treatises of the Gnostics we know that Christ (the metaphysical force embodied in the form of Jesus) is the opposite twin of the god Shaitan himself, no more, no less. Such beliefs are rooted in the Persian-Zoroastrian myths about the warring twins – Darkness and Light (Ahriman and Ormuzd). Dualistic philosophy - like Gnosticism, Manichaeism and Zoroastrianism - tends to mythologize its weltanschauung through the image of twin brothers, completely similar in appearance, but at the same time completely different in their inner nature. The metaphysical contradiction of nature reveals the basis of the “royal” myths.
Almost all occult and esoteric systems offer the idea of "emanations." The doctrine of emanation states that all etheric and physical entities flow from one source - invisible, intangible and incomprehensible. Good and evil, sin and virtue, Shaitan and Christ - all these phenomena contribute to the process of development, for they all come from the primary unity of the Monarch in the dance of time and return there.
There are certain brotherhoods of experts who have access to both the realm of metaphysics and visible earthly space. They try to help evolution in its slow and difficult task, the goal of which is to achieve perfection. These specialists call themselves "Servants of the Generalissimo", as the late Manly Palmer Hall called the Monarch in his book "The Secret Teachings of All Ages". They help the Ruler of the world to fulfill the “Great Task”, or “Magnum Opus”, - to revive and improve all forms of life on earth.
The power of the Monarch is great and yet not absolute. She often appears in a mad, damaged, unfree, decrepit, rejected or castrated form. The power of the Ruler is shared with the subjects to whom it extends on the basis of their free will. The most important task entrusted to the Chosen One is to heal, revive and perfect the Anima Mundi, since any specific life forms are part of it (the concept of “Gaia” fits especially well here). Surprisingly, only we can help complete this impossible task. Salvation cannot be achieved without our full and conscious cooperation.
Certain geographical points on Earth easily flow into the Royal "Current". These places are traditionally located in the icy expanses of the Far North, where the warm, fiery land of Spring is surrounded on all sides by a wall of snow and ice (see the article "Pathworking Hyperborea" in the ninth issue of Gnosis magazine). The supposed location of the Ruler of the world is the North Pole or the World Axis, hence the unusual connection of the Ruler to the myth of Santa Claus. The World Axis, the location of the Monarch's throne, is marked by the World Tree (see Odin's speech in the epigraph to the article) or the World Mountain. At its top (or crown) there is a square-shaped city, where the Chosen One resides, surrounded by a hierarchy of saints, angels and sages. The Dark Hierarchy is located in the roots of the World Tree - or in the caves at the base of the Mountain - and secretly communicates with the Summit. Among the big names of people who have associated themselves with the Chosen One at different times are the following: Prestor John, Brons, the wounded Fisher King, Shaitan and Christ, Frederick Barbarossa, the Sleeping Emperor, Apollo and Bacchus, Amphion and Zethos, Ormuzd and Ahriman, Janus, the king Arthur, Odin and Osiris. Masons call the Ruler the Great Architect of the Universe (GUA). This definition preserves the meaning of the concept of “ruler” as a “measure” or creator. In the East, the Monarch appears in the form of Matreya, the future Buddha or Shiva, the god of mountain yogis. The Gnostics would choose Jehovah, the mad demiurge, although the absolute aspect is expressed by Yaldoboth. Interestingly, the Chosen One is often represented by minor members of the pantheon, reflecting his status as the local guardian of one planet.
An approximate portrait, fragmentary and incomplete, began to emerge. But the only way a person can gain their understanding of the Monarch is by choosing a prophetic "travelling" (guided meditative journeys through the Inner Kingdoms), where the subject can come face to face with the Monarch. The key to traversing the path is to use an active and aware imagination in a relaxed state of altered consciousness (but never in a state of complete “trance”). Following the ancient shamans of Central Asia, we too can learn to transport ourselves north to the great Great Invisible Mountain, as the 17th century mystic Thomas Vaughan called it in his book Lumen de Lumine (Light of the Whole World). After passing through seven archetypal beings, we will finally reach the goal of our quest - the bed of the Monarch. Most often He appears in the form of an elderly but royal being, lying on a bed with an open and bleeding wound. Interestingly, the Monarch usually appears behind a thin veil. Behind this moving image lies enormous metaphysical energy and consciousness operating in interstellar dimensions. Behind this image is the one who watches, whose reign is built on memories and ecstasy. This is tradition, clothed in paradox, and yet this is the same paradox of the World that we encounter here. The amazingly funny thing about all this is that eventually all conscious life forms will inevitably end up at the bedside of the Monarch. Each of them will see and experience something different there, and at the same time they will all see the same thing. In this paradox lies the beginning of wisdom.
